After 10 years, Lithuania wins medal at International Philosophy Olympiad
Great news have come from the International Philosophy Olympiad which took place in the Italian port city of Bari on 16-19 May, where Vilnius Lyceum student Gustė Antanaitytė (teacher Ernestas Šidlauskas) was awarded a silver medal. This is Lithuania's first medal at the Olympiad after a 10-year break.
"The International Philosophy Olympiad stands out from other Olympiads because the number of medals awarded is very small, so each award is a significant international achievement," says Gediminas Beresnevičius, Head of the Capacity Building Division at the Lithuanian Agency of Non-Formal Education (LINEŠA), which organises the participation of school students in the International Philosophy Olympiads in our country.
A total of 111 students from 54 countries took part in the Olympiad. This year, Lithuania was represented by Gustė Antanaitytė and Kasparas Skuja, twelfth-graders from Vilnius Lyceum. Both students were prepared for the Olympiad by philosophy teacher Ernestas Šidlauskas.
Lithuania is also a member of the International Deciding Committee, which gives it the right to vote on decisions on the organisation of future Olympiads, changes to the Statutes and the election of representatives to the Olympiad Committees.
