Today, the meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was held. The main topic of the discussions was creation of inclusive and equitable society through education.

The changes implemented in Lithuania – the Programme of Millennium Schools, changes in the achievement assessment system can reduce achievement gaps, exclusion of rural area and cities, inequal opportunities to pursue quality education.

Minister of Education, Science and Sports Jurgita Šiugždinienė met with High Commissioner on National Minorities of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Kairat Abdrakhmanov. It is their second meeting, the first was held online.

The Minister of Education, Science and Sport Jurgita Šiugždinienė has met with EIT Manufacturing CEO Klaus Beetz to discuss partnership in enhancing the entrepreneurial skills at higher education and science institutions of Lithuania and innovative business engagement with education and science.

€77.7 million will be allocated for mission-driven science and innovation programmes. In preparation for the launch of the new funding tool for addressing public concerns, the description of conditions for funding this project was submitted for public discussion.

Meda Surdokaitė’s research won first place in the European Union Young Scientists Competition in the Netherlands. Meda was also awarded a special prize – an invitation to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm.

The Ministry of the Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, is launching mission-driven science and innovation programmes to help target investment in science and innovation, while tackling pressing societal challenges.

Sports ministers and politicians of 35 states have signed their second statement on suspension of Russia and Belarus’ athletes and organizations from participating in international sports.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine have enabled Ukrainians in Lithuania to take an entrance test to higher education institutions in Ukraine.

2022 admission to short-cycle studies at higher education institutions starts on June 1st. This academic year, short-cycle studies in Lithuania are being introduced for the first time. Graduates of short-cycle studies will be able to gain the most marketable qualifications in just 1,5 to 2 years.

Athletes and their coaches are going to be awarded significantly higher bonuses by the Government for medals in Paralympics and Deaflympics starting now. Consequently, higher bonuses are going to be allocated to athletes winning medals in Brazil Deaflympics and their coaches.
