On 21st of September, delegates of the National Science and Technology Council of Taiwan visited the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport to discuss Lithuanian-Taiwanese collaboration in the fields of science and innovation, talent exchange.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the Ministry of Health have announced a competition for the position of the Director of the National Cancer Institute. Applications shall be submitted no later than by 11 September 2023.

The Olympic Games in Paris will open exactly one year from today. We, the Foreign Ministers of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania commend the recent confirmation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that Russia and Belarus will not receive formal invitations to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics.

Lithuania and Taiwan plan on expanding collaboration in the fields of science and technology. On 24th of July, delegates of Taiwan’s Academia Sinica visited the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport to discuss collaboration opportunities in scientific research and international exchange programmes for researchers.

On 12 June, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport hosted a meeting of STEAM enthusiasts with guests from Estonia. The meeting discussed the shortage of engineers and other STEAM science representatives in the labour market, the need for wider use of STEAM education methods both in Lithuania and Estonia.

At a meeting of the Council of EU Sports Ministers in Brussels, Lithuania called on EU sports policymakers to once again discuss the rights of Ukrainian athletes in the context of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international sports events in the EU.

Lithuania ranks among the top 10 most successful countries in terms of the reading skills of fourth-graders, according to the results of the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS). Sixty-five countries participated in the study in 2021. Lithuania's performance in this survey was the best in two decades of participation.

On 19 April, the Minister of Education, Science and Sport of Lithuania Jurgita Šiugždinienė met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of Liechtenstein Dominique Hasler. The ministers discussed the integration of Ukrainian children in the education system.

Foreign nationals and foreigners of Lithuanian origin who have chosen short-term and master degree studies in Lithuanian higher education institutions will receive state support – the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport will provide them with monthly scholarships to cover the cost of studies in Lithuania.

Higher education institutions and research institutes are organising Lithuanian studies for foreign nationals and foreigners of Lithuanian origin, which will be financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. Interested students are invited to choose between summer courses and short-term studies.

On 21 March, the leadership of the Extreme Light Infrastructure European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ELI ERIC) visited the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport. The leaders of the organisation and the representatives of the Ministry discussed further cooperation.

The Minister of Education, Science and Sport Jurgita Šiugždinienė and Lithuanian sports federations and organizations signed a joint declaration against the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in international sports competitions.
