Priorities in education and training

Internationalization and efficient financing of higher education, encouraging leadership in education and inclusive vocational training, as well as discussion on open educational resources and digital learning, are the key priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency in the field of education and training.

Education and training are crucial to well-being of every EU citizen, to growing, productive and competitive Europe, facing challenges of globalization and modernization. Therefore the Lithuanian Presidency stresses the need for better quality and efficiency in education and training.

Priorities in research and development

The main priority of Lithuania in the area of research is to allow for the EU research and innovation funding programme Horizon 2020, including the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, as well as Euratom programme, to start on time - from the beginning of 2014.

Development of research and innovation is an integral part of the European Union’s objective to increase its competitiveness. The EU research and innovation funding programme Horizon 2020 will become an important instrument for promoting EU economic growth and attracting more top-class researchers and a wider range of innovative businesses.
