Enhancing educational conditions for the children of German military personnel and the LASUC community

At the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport, the Government has today decided to take over the real estate owned by the Vilnius City Municipality and transfer it to the Lithuanian Education Centre for the Blind and Visually Impaired (LASUC) to be held in trust. This decision will help ensure a safe environment for both the centre’s students and the children of German military personnel studying here.

The property to be transferred – seven children’s playgrounds located near the LASUC, their lighting systems and the parking barrier system – will be used to strengthen the LASUC’s core activities, i.e. to organise pre-school and pre-primary education for children with visual impairments, to ensure student safety, and to adapt the specialised educational environment.

In accordance with the Agreement on Defence Cooperation between Lithuania and Germany, the LASUC premises and the modular buildings on its territory are also used for the education of children of German military families. In autumn, the German school Deutsche Schule Vilnius, established for the children of German military personnel serving in Lithuania, as well as German-language pre-school and pre-primary education groups, began operating in Lithuania.

The transfer of the property to the LASUC will allow the expansion of the overall infrastructure of the centre, which is essential for the quality of the educational process for both groups, while creating an integral and safe space for all the children in the centre.
