Famous Lithuanians to prepare video lessons for French students
Some of the well-known personalities in Lithuania will offer French students three video lessons presenting Lithuanian cultural phenomena. The lessons are designed as a creative exercise based on the formula “If X were Y”.
Lithuanian superstar break-dancer and Olympic vice-champion Dominika Banevič, also known as B-Girl Nicka, will interpret Kaunas modernist architecture. Electronic music creator and DJ Manfredas Bajelis will discuss the artistic movement Fluxus, and artist and composer Lina Lapelytė will present a new work inspired by the Baltic Way in her lesson, which will be available to the public as from today.
“This project is a huge and valuable piece of work that I believe will be relevant not only for French students, but also for Lithuanian students. Educational lessons presenting the historical and cultural phenomena of our country are universal in their unique form – they speak the language of art and develop creativity that is not limited by national borders or cultural differences. In France, these lessons can become an attractive and modern tool to learn about Lithuania and its history, while in Lithuania they can be an opportunity to rediscover and understand events that are important to us,” says Ignas Gaižiūnas, Vice-Minister of Education, Science and Sport.
The educational principle used for the cycle is “If X were Y”, where Lithuania’s historical and cultural phenomena (X) are interpreted through different forms of artistic expression – dance, music and performance (Y).
“At the heart of this idea is creativity, which enables learning and teaching. It was important to us that French students see Lithuanian cultural phenomena not only as a distant past, but above all as an inspiration for the future. For the formula “If X were Y” to work, you need to look into history – the Baltic Way, Kaunas Modernism, or Fluxus. But the next step is just as important – to understand how these phenomena make me creative myself. What can I create myself inspired by them?’ – Kristupas Sabolius, co-founder of the School of Creativity and the author of the idea for video lessons, tells us about the project.
These video lessons will be available on the French educational platform, which has several million users, and will be accompanied by methodological material for teachers. It is also planned that in December this year, students from different French schools will offer their own creative interpretations of the Baltic Way, Fluxus and Kaunas Modernism, based on the same formula “If X were Y”, which will be presented at a special event in Paris.
This project is part of the “Season of Lithuania in France 2024”. The creation of the video lessons was initiated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania, the educational platform School of Creativity, and the production company Somefilms. The director of the video cycle is Titas Sūdžius.
