J.Šiugždinienė met with D.Hasler, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of Liechtenstein
On 19 April, the Minister of Education, Science and Sport of Lithuania Jurgita Šiugždinienė met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of Liechtenstein Dominique Hasler. The ministers discussed the integration of Ukrainian children.
J.Šiugždinienė shared our country‘s experience with the challenges of Ukrainian children‘s integration in the education system.
“In Lithuania, we have about 20 thousand Ukrainian children, however, not all of them are in school. Currently, we are in the process of motivating Ukrainian families to register their children into our schools. Ukrainian children are provided the same opportunities as Lithuanian children. We want them to feel comfortable here because we are responsible for the future of Ukraine,” said J.Šiugždinienė.
D.Hasler shared that Liechtenstein is also experiencing challenges with the integration of Ukrainian children. She stressed that it is very important for refugees to learn the national language of the receiving country and to integrate into a larger community. In Liechtenstein, various active learning methods are used in order to teach Ukrainian children the German language.
The ministers also discussed the opportunities for Ukrainian refugees to study in vocational training centers in Lithuania and Liechtenstein.
