Lithuanian pupils win as many as 13 medals at the European Geography Olympiad

Lithuanian students win 4 gold, 7 silver and 2 bronze medals at the 11th European Geography Olympiad held from 29 June to 3 July in Vilnius.

The following pupils were the absolute winners of the Olympiad scoring the most points: Romanian team representative Nenu Alessio Andrei (junior age group) and Lithuanian Ugnius Vilimas (junior age group).

Aistis Valantiejus (Vilnius Žemynos Pro-Gymnasium, teacher Sigutė Žiūrienė) was awarded the gold medal in the junior group. The silver medal went to Ugnius Bigelis (President Valdas Adamkus Gymnasium, teacher Jūratė Čiapienė), Arnas Bliūdžius (Gargždai "Minijos" Progymnasium, teacher Angelė Pakamorienė) and Matas Stankūnas (Klaipėda Simonas Dachas Progymnasium, teacher Vilma Norvaišienė). The bronze medal was awarded to Urtė Petraškaitė (Alytus "Dainavos" Progymnasium, teacher Loreta Žvirblienė).

In the junior age group, Lithuania was represented by 8 pupils, all of whom won medals. The gold medal was awarded to Ugnius Vilimas (Vilnius Lyceum, teacher Jolita Milaknienė), Tomas Jakubauskas (Palangos senoji gimnazija, teacher Nerijus Vaišvilas) and Ridas Urbanavičius (KTU Gymnasium, teacher Kristina Zakarauskienė).

The silver medals went to Faustas Kondratavičius (LSMU Gymnasium, teacher Jolita Vizbarienė), Lukas Petrikas (Vilnius Lyceum, teacher Jolita Milaknienė), Rojus Kondratavičius (LSMU Gymnasium, teacher Jolita Vizbarienė), and Miglė Birštunitė (Vilnius Lyceum, teacher Linoreta Vasilevičienė). The bronze medal was awarded to Marta Puronaitė (KTU Gymnasium, teacher Kristina Zakarauskienė).

For the first time in Lithuania, 112 pupils and about 40 team leaders from 16 countries took part in the Olympiad. The medals were awarded to the representatives of 11 countries at the Olympiad. Lithuania, Poland and Latvia won the most medals, while the pupils from Romania, Bulgaria and Kazakhstan were also great.
