Lithuanian pupils win four bronze medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad

The International Chemistry Olympiad, held from 10 to 19 July, was a success for every member of the Lithuanian team, with all participants winning medals.

Four young Lithuanian chemists received bronze medals: Augustinas Jerešiūnas, a Year 11 pupil at Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium (teacher: Birutė Maciulevičienė); Nojus Pudžemis, a Year 12 pupil at Vilnius Lyceum (teacher: Rasa Žemaitaitienė); Paulius Tamašiūnas, a Year 12 pupil at Vilnius Lyceum (teacher: Rasa Žemaitaitienė); and Titas Balčiūnas, a Year 12 pupil at Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasium (teacher: Skirmantė Bačinskienė).

The Lithuanian team was led by Eivydas Trioška and Deimantas Šmigelskas, students at Vilnius University’s Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences.

The International Chemistry Olympiad is one of the world’s most prestigious science competitions, bringing together outstanding young chemists from across the globe. More than 350 pupils from over 90 countries participated in this year’s Olympiad, held in Uzbekistan.

Lithuania’s participation in international Olympiads is organised by the Lithuanian Agency for Non-Formal Education (LINEŠA).
