Lithuanian students win a bronze medal and a letter of commendation at the International Computer Science Olympiad

At the 37th International Olympiad of Informatics (IOI 2025) which was held from 27 July to 3 August in Sucre, Bolivia, Lithuanian students won a bronze medal and a letter of commendation.

The bronze medal went to Faustas Surplys, a pupil of class II of the Vilnius Lyceum, who prepared for the Olympiad independently. A letter of commendation was awarded to Marijonas Salvijus Keturakis, a pupil of class IV of the Gymnasium of President Antanas Smetona, who also prepared for the Olympiad independently.

The team was led by Dr. Jūratė Skūpienė (Institute of Informatics, Vilnius University) and Aldas Lenkšas (alumnus of Delft University of Technology, former IOI participant).

During the Olympiad, participants spent two days of five hours each solving algorithmic programming problems in C++. One of them – the "trio of peaks" – required both the development of efficient algorithms and the optimisation of data through creative solutions.

The IOI 2025 Olympiad attracted 334 students from 85 countries.
