Lithuanian students win silver and bronze in the Central European Mathematical Olympiad

Lithuanian students won silver and bronze medals and two letters of commendation at the 19th Central European Mathematical Olympiad (MEMO) in Chemnitz, Germany, 25-30 August.

Two medals were won by students of Vilnius Jesuit High School: the silver medal went to Arijus Paulavičius (2nd grade, teachers Zina Šiaulienė, Šarūnas Vaitkus, Eduardas Juška), and the bronze medal was won by Vasaris Rinkevičius (4th grade, teachers Zina Šiaulienė, Šarūnas Vaitkus).

Letters of commendation went to Augustas Keris from Vilnius Jesuit High School (2nd grade, teachers Zina Šiaulienė, Šarūnas Vaitkus, Eduardas Juška) and Augustas Kurlavičius from the Gymnasium of Kaunas University of Technology (4th grade, teacher Alvydas Beinakaraitis).

A total of 66 young mathematicians from 11 countries took part in the Olympiad. The Olympiad is usually attended by students from ten countries. An 11th team from Ukraine was invited by the organisers to participate as a guest.
