Lithuanian students won a gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad in Colombia
At the International Physics Olympiad, held July 4th to 12th in Bucaramanga, Colombia, Lithuanian students achieved outstanding results: they won gold and bronze medals. A Lithuanian representative won a gold medal at this prestigious Olympiad after a decade-long hiatus and for only the third time in the country’s history of participating in the event.
Robertas Juknevičius, a 4th grade student at the Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium, who has competed in the Physics Olympiad before, won gold in Colombia. His teacher is Darius Virbukas. The young man had already demonstrated his expertise: at the International Physics Olympiad 2025, he won a silver medal, and in June of this year, he repeated that same achievement at the European Physics Olympiad.
Lukas Mažrimas, a 3rd grade student at Klaipėda’s “Ąžuolyno” Gymnasium (teacher Saulius Žukauskas), won the bronze medal.
Three students received letters of commendation: Žygimantas Lečickis, a 2nd grade student at Vilnius Lyceum, teacher Eugenijus Rudminas; Armandas Grinkevičius, a 4th grade student at Vytautas Magnum Gymnasium in Trakai, teacher Andrius Storta; Marius Chadzevičius, a 4th grade student at the Engineering Lyceum of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, teacher Raimonda Beinortienė.
The team of Lithuanian students was led by Jevgenij Chmeliov, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University and a senior researcher at the Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC), and by FTMC researcher Vytautas Jakštas.
The participation of Lithuanian students in international Olympiads is organised by the Lithuanian Non-Formal Education Agency (LINEŠA).
