Lithuanian students won seven medals at the European Geography Olympiad
From June 28 to July 3, the Lithuanian national team of students won seven medals at the 12th European Geography Olympiad held in Varna, Bulgaria.
Young geographers from 12 countries participated in the Olympiad. Lithuanian students competed in two age categories: for the first time, not only the most promising junior students (7th–8th graders) but also senior students (1st–4th graders from high schools) participated in this Olympiad.
Marta Puronaitė, a student at Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium, won the silver medal in the senior category, while Mangirdas Norvilas and Marius Dimša, students at Vilnius Lyceum, brought bronze medals to Lithuania.
In the junior category, Paulius Gudauskas, a student at Klaipėda’s Simon Dach Progymnasium, did his best and won the silver medal.
Agota Hokušaitė, a student at Radviliškis Gražina Basic School, Vytautas Klimavičius, a student at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) Gymnasium, and Jokūbas Mackonis, a student at Panevėžys “Vilties” Progymnasium, brought bronze medals to Lithuania. Marius Venslauskas, a student at the Vytautas Magnum University (VDU) Ugnė Karvelis Gymnasium, was awarded a letter of commendation.
The Lithuanian team at the European Geography Olympiad was led by Rytas Šalna, president of the Lithuanian Geography Teachers’ Association, and Angelė Pakamorienė, a teacher expert at Gargždai Minija Progymnasium.
The participation of Lithuanian students in international Olympiads is organised by the Lithuanian Non-Formal Education Agency (LINEŠA).
