Lithuanians return from the International Biology Olympiad with four medals
Lithuanian students won two silver and two bronze medals at the 36th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) which was held on 20-27 July in Quezon City, Philippines. Nearly 300 students from 77 countries took part in the Olympiad.
Silver medals were awarded to: Justas Miliauskas, Vilnius Lyceum (teacher Alyda Daulenskienė), and Emilijus Latakas, Klaipėda Lyceum (teacher Ingrida Rimkienė).
Bronze medals were awarded to: Artūras Makselis, Varėnos "Ąžuolo" Gymnasium (teacher: Vida Stonienė), and Titas Balčiūnas, Vilnius Jesuit High School (teachers: Ala Vaicekauskienė, Simas Ignatavičius).
The Olympiad involved theoretical and practical tasks in various fields of biology: cell biology, genetics, ecology, ethology, etc.
The team was led by Vilnius University researchers Dr. Andrius Petrašiūnas, Indrė Lapeikaitė and Dominykas Murza.
Lithuania has earned the trust of the international community and will host the 37th International Biology Olympiad in Vilnius in July 2026.
