Ministers of Education discussed the creation of inclusive and equitable society through education
Today, the meeting of the Ministers of Education of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) was held. The main topic of the discussions was creation of inclusive and equitable society through education.
The Ministers discussed the guidelines for potential help from the OECD for the countries to develop more effective educational systems and benefit from the synergy with other political fields to enable education and teaching to contribute to better and fairer results of the economy and labour market, more active social involvement and better functioning democracy.
The Ministers adopted the Declaration on building equitable society through education by ensuring inclusive and equitable education. The Declaration reflects the main topics of the discussions:
- rearrangement of educational programmes to meet social and emotional needs of learners;
- the role of digitalisation in ensuring equity and inclusion;
- development of the life-long learning fundamentals;
- the best possible adaptation of education to the word of labour;
- how alternative modes of qualification recognition, education providers can encourage inclusive life-long learning and modernise education.
Many countries face challenges in ensuring inclusive education. The Equity Dashboard was presented at the meeting, which analyses assurance of inclusion in the educational systems of the OECD member countries through 35 indicators.
Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Education, Science and Sports Ramūnas Skaudžius when introducing the Programme of Millennium Schools emphasised the goal of the programme to reduce inequality and differences in learning achievements between urban and rural areas and different schools. The long-term goal is to ensure the best learning conditions possible for all pupils in all schools, irrespective of their place of residence, social status, or specal needs they may have.
