Minister’s visit to the European School Brussels II: discussion over outstanding educational outcomes, teachers’ initiatives and the forthcoming Lithuania’s presidency

On 28 November, Minister of Education, Science and Sport Raminta Popovienė visited the European School Brussels II. The Lithuanian Section of the school has 248 Lithuanian students and 11 Lithuanian teachers on secondment for the school year 2025/2026.

Teachers at the European School Brussels II actively initiate projects to promote Lithuanian language and culture, such as artistic reading competitions for students, non-traditional integrated lessons to commemorate anniversaries of importance to Lithuania.

Audronė Anulienė, a teacher of Lithuanian language and philosophy at the European School Brussels II, has won the Lithuanian Education Teacher Prize 2024, which is awarded to teachers and lecturers of formal and non-formal Lithuanian schools and Baltic Studies centres, and thanks to which the students of the Lithuanian Section achieve exceptionally good academic outcomes.

The European Schools are set up and operate in accordance with the Statute for the European Schools, which has been approved by an intergovernmental Convention entered into by all Member States. All Member States have certain obligations in terms of school management, funding, quality assurance, teacher assignments, teaching quality assessment and other commitments. One of the key commitments is the 12-month presidency, which will run from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2027, after Latvia.
