Vice-Minister Grybauskas meets European Commissioner Micallef

Giedrius Grybauskas, Vice-Minister of Education, Science and Sport, met with Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, in Vilnius today.

During the meeting, they discussed the International Olympic Committee’s decision to allow Belarusian athletes to use their national symbols in international sports competitions. The Commissioner expressed his concern about this IOC decision. The Vice-Minister stressed that this decision is unacceptable while the brutal war against Ukraine continues and sport remains one of the main propaganda tools of Russia and Belarus. The Vice-Minister also presented the EU Commissioner with the legendary Lithuanian national basketball team shirt that was worn by the Lithuanian players at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.

A few weeks ago, at the EU Sport Forum in Cyprus, Vice-Minister Grybauskas and Commissioner Micaleff discussed the sports agenda in preparation for Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Today, the meeting with the Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport in Vilnius was also attended by Aušra Putk, the Vice-Minister of Social Security and Labour, and Viktor Denisenko, the Vice-Minister of Culture.
