Call for the Position of the Director of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language

We invite you to participate in the competition for the position of Director of the The Lithuanian Language Institute. Documents can be submitted no later than 5 March 2025 (inclusive).

We hope that the new leader will be able to effectively lead the Lithuanian Language Institute (LLI) community and ensure the financial and organisational stability of the Institute. The head of the Institute should represent the Institute at the national and international level, promote collaboration and innovation in Lithuanian language research, create an environment conducive to research, and uphold high ethical and transparent standards.

As the head of the Institute, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the research and dissemination of the Lithuanian language by building the Institute's reputation as an important research centre.

You will be able to contribute directly to the preservation, research and modernisation of the Lithuanian language adapting to the new challenges of language use in modern society.

You will have the opportunity to lead a competent team of researchers working on important language research projects, and to attract young researchers who will form the core of the Institute's future activities.

You will directly contribute to the development of the Lithuanian language policy ensuring the importance and preservation of the Lithuanian language both in Lithuania and worldwide.

Information about the institution

The LLI is a public research institute, a public legal person with a status of particular national significance.

LLI's research and experimental development activities: research into the history of the Lithuanian language and the development of writings; research on lexis and lexicography, terminology and theoretical terminography, grammar and typology, onomastics of the Lithuanian language; research on the functioning of the Lithuanian language in society and pragmatics; research on Lithuanian dialects and sociolinguistics; research on current and historical contacts between Lithuanian studies and Lithuanian studies; research into the history of Lithuanian linguistics; research on the functioning of the Lithuanian language in information technologies.

The LLI employs 94 employees, including 66 researchers. In 2024, the budget of the LLI was EUR 2.9 million.
