Farewell to students admitted to the world’s top universities: they will work for Lithuania on their return

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport congratulated the winners of the Next 100 Competition who have been admitted to the world’s top universities. A total of 29 students will have their studies abroad financed by the State. The winners will return to Lithuania after completing their studies as they have committed to applying their knowledge in their home country by working here for at least three years. The students were congratulated by the Acting Prime Minister Rimantas Šadžius, the Minister of Education, Science and Sport Raminta Popovienė and the Deputy Minister Jonas Petkevičius.

This was the eighth edition of the Next 100 Competition. The Competition awards scholarships to cover the cost of studying at universities ranked in the Top 20 in global rankings.

This year’s funding support is available to students enrolled at Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard Universities, as well as those to study at Zurich University of the Arts, University of the Arts London, Imperial College London, Royal Academy of Music, Royal Academy of Arts, Royal College of Art, Royal Conservatoire The Hague, and The Juilliard School.

This year’s winners will study engineering, geotechnics, computer science, economics, mathematics, natural sciences, education, political science, philosophy, clinical neuroscience, immunology, biology, genomic medicine, nuclear energy, theatre, cinema and television, violin, clarinet, composition, urban design, etc.

A total of 89 students took part in the 2025 Competition. In selecting the winners, a jury set up by the State Studies Foundation, which administers the financial support, evaluates the international rankings of the higher education institution chosen by the participant, the student’s motivation, reference letters and CVs.

Selected applicants are granted up to €58,000 for one year of study. In eight years, 99 of the 155 students who have benefited from the support have already completed their studies.
