International Lithuanian Congress in Wrocław focused on Lithuanian (Baltic) studies centres abroad
The International Lithuanian Congress was held in Wrocław, Poland, bringing together scholars, researchers, practitioners, linguists, historians, literary scholars, and cultural academics interested in Lithuanian studies. During the Congress, the most pressing challenges of foreign centres of Lithuanian (Baltic) studies were discussed, and the country’s priorities for strengthening Lithuanian (Baltic) studies were presented.
The Congress was opened by the Vice-Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Dr. Regina Valutytė. “Lithuanian (Baltic) studies centres abroad are important partners in our cultural and scientific diplomacy, contributing to the establishment of long-term academic, cultural and social relations,” said the Vice-Minister.
The participants of the Congress discussed the future prospects of foreign Lithuanian (Baltic) studies centres and the role of the state in ensuring the stability and development of Baltic studies centres. The need for a long-term strategy for these centres was also discussed, as well as the most pressing challenges for the Baltic studies centres in Poland.
In the discussion, Vice-Minister Dr. R. Valutytė presented the principles and directions of the sustainable funding model for Lithuanian (Baltic) studies centres envisaged in the Plan for Implementation of the Government Programme until the end of 2027. The aim of this model is to strengthen the partnership of Lithuanian (Baltic) studies centres with Lithuanian universities, researchers and the diaspora, to ensure continued funding for key initiatives that are in line with the cultural, academic, scientific and political interests of the state of Lithuania, and to contribute to the strengthening of the internationalisation of higher education, cultural academic diplomacy and the multifaceted links between Lithuania and the world.
