Lithuanian students won Silver and Bronze Medals at the European Physics Olympiad
Young physicists from our country performed successfully at the 10th European Physics Olympiad held June 12–16 in Gothenburg, Sweden: they received two Silver Medals, two Bronze Medals, and an Honourable Mention.
Silver Medals for Lithuania were won by Robertas Juknevičius and Tomas Razbadauskas, 4th grade students at the Kaunas University of Technology Gymnasium (both taught by Darius Virbukas).
Bronze Medals were won by Armandas Grinkevičius, a 4th grade student at Trakai Vytautas Magnus Gymnasium (teacher Andrius Storta), and Lukas Mažrimas, a 3rd grade student at Klaipėda “Ąžuolyno” Gymnasium (teacher Saulius Žukauskas).
Marius Chadzevičius, a 4th grade student at the Engineering Lyceum of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (teacher Raimonda Beinortienė), was given an Honourable Mention.
At this year’s Olympiad, Lithuania was represented by five students who were selected through national selection process and accompanied by experienced academic leaders. The team was led by Jevgenij Chmeliov, an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University and a senior researcher at the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, and by researcher Vytautas Jakštas.
200 most talented young physicists from 41 countries – not only from Europe but also from other parts of the world – competed in Gothenburg.
