Lithuanian team sent to EuroSkills, Europe’s biggest vocational skills competition
Graduates from Lithuanian vocational schools will compete with the best students from other countries in EuroSkills, the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in Europe. The Lithuanian delegation - young professionals and their teachers - was sent off to the competition in Denmark by Raminta Popovienė, the Acting Minister of Education, Science and Sport.
“You will represent Lithuania in the competition by showing your excellence and skills, which is already an achievement and a great honour. Most importantly, you will draw attention to the meaningfulness of vocational training and you will have the opportunity to showcase your profession to the whole world,” said the Minister in her congratulations to the participants.
This year, the Lithuanian team consists of 8 professions: tailors, a web programmer, a car mechanic, a hairdresser, a beautician, a confectioner, a cook and a waitress.
The young professionals will represent the Vilnius School of Car Mechanics and Business, Vilnius Service Business Vocational Training Centre, Karaliaus Mindaugas Vocational Training Centre, Kaunas School of Information Technology, Kaunas Food Industry and Trade Training Centre, Klaipėda Technology Training Centre, Klaipėda Tourism School, TECHIN, VESK and Visaginas Technology and Business Vocational Education and Training Centre.
Hundreds of young people from 33 countries come together every 2 years to compete for the title of the best professional in Europe in the EuroSkills competition.
The EuroSkills participants are selected through national competitions. In the international competition, they have to demonstrate their vocational skills in both individual and team tasks. Performance of the tasks requires sophisticated technical knowledge and skills, which are acquired by young people through vocational training in an educational institution or on the job.
Lithuania has been taking part in EuroSkills competitions since the first competition, which was held in the Netherlands in 2008. 2010 was marked by a silver medal won in the section of car mechanics in Portugal, and the first gold medal was won in the same section in 2023 in Poland. In the same year, there was also a bronze medal in programming and a medal of excellence in welding.
EuroSkills competitions are organised by WorldSkills Europe, part of the global WorldSkills movement that promotes the development of professional skills. Working with young people, educators, governments and industry, the organisation helps prepare today’s skilled worker and unleash the talent needed for the fast-changing world of technology and business.
