Lithuania's position on future EU Framework programme for research and innovation approved

The 10th European Research and Innovation Framework Programme is set to start in 2028. The Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Lithuania has put forward Lithuania’s preliminary position on the future programme. The preliminary position was recently approved by the Government.

In the document, Lithuania calls for an integrated approach, which would involve the consideration of various policies, funding streams, and stakeholder needs holistically, while negotiating the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

Lithuania expects the future programme to provide more funding for knowledge creation, as well as increased support for research and development involving technologies with dual-use potential.

Lithuania also highlights the necessity to develop tailor-made integration measures for new candidate countries, such as Ukraine and Moldova.

Currently, other EU member states and organizations of various stakeholders are also preparing their positions on the future programme.

The current European research and innovation funding programme, Horizon Europe, is set to end in 2027. This programme tackles climate change, helps achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and boosts the EU’s competitiveness and growth. The indicative funding amount for Horizon Europe is EUR 93.5 billion.
