Minister Popovienė met with the Secretary-General of the European Schools
On 12 May, the Minister of Education, Science and Sport Raminta Popovienė met with Andreas Beckmann, Secretary-General of the European Schools, and together discussed Lithuania’s forthcoming Presidency of the European Schools system.
“This will be the first time that Lithuania will lead the European Schools. It is a nice coincidence that the presidency will overlap with Lithuania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, and we are preparing for it responsibly. We have set out the priorities we will pursue, including greater linguistic and cultural diversity, better learning in a responsible way through the use of AI tools, and the development of inclusive education in European schools,” said Minister Popovienė.
In addition, according to the Minister, the Presidency events and conferences for teachers will be aimed at raising the visibility of the European Schools system.
European Schools are educational institutions run by EU Member States and provide multilingual and multicultural education. The European Schools system consists of 37 schools in 15 EU countries, with around 400 Lithuanian students.
Lithuania will take over the presidency of the European Schools system from 1 August 2026, when Latvia ends its presidency.
