Minister Raminta Popovienė met with Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine

Minister of Education, Science and Sport, Raminta Popovienė, and other members of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Lithuania visited Ukraine where they met with the Ukrainian Government and personally with Oksen Lisovyi, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The bilateral meeting discussed cooperation and Lithuania’s contribution to the education of immigrant Ukrainian children.

“Our educational establishments showed great willingness to receive Ukrainian children and youth fleeing from the atrocities of war, and provided better conditions for development as much as possible. Quite many children have already returned to their Homeland, while the rest are continuing their education in Lithuania. We are ready to help as much as needed. Ukrainians are now working very actively to restore the education infrastructure, so that the returning citizens have a place for learning and studying”, said Minister R. Popovienė.

With a view to ensuring quality teaching in Lithuania, the Vilnius Lithuanian House organises seminars and consultations for Lithuanian teachers who work with children from Ukraine.

Immigrant Ukrainian children can learn at Lithuanian schools according to our country’s curricula, as well as at a distance at Ukrainian schools and, according to the general education curricula of the Republic of Ukraine, at Lithuanian schools which have received the approval of the Ministry of Eduction, Science and Sport to act under the Ukrainian general education curricula. The Ministry has received permits to implement the Ukrainian education curriculum for eight schools which have about 3 000 Ukrainian learners.

Immigrant Ukrainian teachers who teach general education subjects, as well as vocational teachers, educators, special pedagogues, speech therapists, teachers of the deaf, teachers of the blind, social pedagogues and school psychologists have an opportunity for employment at Lithuanian schools.

Lithuania and Ukraine cooperate in the sphere of studies and science. The State of Lithuania continues its support for Ukrainian war refugees studying in Lithuania. This year’s allocations for Ukrainian scientists and joint research amount to almost 2 million euros.
